we didn't actually update nb-javac this release. so stcktraces which come from deep javac code are likely not new. However, behavior could have changed which causes to make something like that more frequent etc.

Just after posting the above, I went back to the IDE and switch tabs and got the following. Not sure how related it is. Interestingly, I made a trivial modification to the file (deleted a paren, restored the paren, and saved) and then the warnings/errors in the editor went away and no further exception notification.

The annotation sanitization pass skipped package symbol metadata. Erroneous package annotations could therefore reach javac's class writer, which cannot generate signatures for error types.
VanillaCompileWorker now sanitizes package annotations through the existing clearAnnotations logic when a package symbol is present.

I hit this too in a Gradle project targeting Java 25 using Temurin. My stacktrace matches the one in the issue description, but I'm also not sure of the exact trigger. I was just editing and saving a Java file.

@mbien that's fair. I hadn't hit this before, so it could absolute be a fluke, but recent changes in my environment include moving to 32-rc1 (after my comments above I have bumped to 32-rc2) but also upgrading to the latest Temurin 25 because of the eMudhra CA issue.
Not that I expect `javac` changes in a security update but I haven't reviewed the change history. It does strike me that I had @ebarboni both hit this near in time to each other.
