onclick return result and JSF

Does or is JSF able to look at the result status of an onclick event?

 

This is what I am trying to do. I have a javascript function that asks
the user for some input. If the user answers yes then I want my
javascript function to return true. If True than I want the action to
take place in my commandButton.

 

Am I looking at this all wrong?
