Sorry for late reply, was on long vacation.

bq.  I don't want to have to fix checkstyle for every file I touched to make this happen. I didn't cause them in this patch and they should be fixed in another patch with that focus.
bq. -1	checkstyle	1m 15s	hbase-server: The patch generated 1 new + 362 unchanged - 1 fixed = 363 total (was 363)
It's not expected either...smile. 
When you see "-1 checkstyle", only look for 'new' errors (caused by patch) and ignore 'unchanged'.
