[D] Use newer version of org.eclipse.osgi than the bundled one [karaf]

GitHub user kenwenzel created a discussion: Use newer version of org.eclipse.osgi than the bundled one

Is it possible to replace the Equinox bundle (org.eclipse.osgi) with a newer version when using the karaf-maven-plugin?
I have a project that uses latest Eclipse components like org.eclipse.equinox.registry depending on more recent versions.

BTW, when will the first milestone or snapshot release of Karaf 4.5.0 be available?

Thanks! So there is no official support to replace/configure it via karaf-maven-plugin?

@jbonofre I've seen that it should be possible by using a "custom" framework. Is this the correct approach?

@jbonofre I've tried to use the following `custom.properties`
```
karaf.framework=equinox
karaf.framework.equinox=mvn:org.eclipse.platform/org.eclipse.osgi/3.24.200
```

in combination with:
````
<installedBundles>
    <bundle>mvn:org.eclipse.platform/org.eclipse.osgi/3.24.200</bundle>
</installedBundles>
```

Unfortunately, I get the following error:
```
Jul 02, 2026 9:15:52 AM org.apache.karaf.main.Main main
SEVERE: Could not launch framework
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: # Generated by bnd
	at java.base/java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:445)
	at org.apache.karaf.main.Main.launch(Main.java:290)
	at org.apache.karaf.main.Main.main(Main.java:183)
```

It seems that `Main` tries to use the comment `# Generated by bnd` as class name.

OK, I'll take a look.
You don't publish snapshots of Karaf 4.50 already?

@kenwenzel yes you can create your own framework feature with the versions you want.

You can override in the plugin. Can you share the plugin goal you are using?

It's updated on main.

4.5.0 is planned for next month.
