Thanks for the prompt reply Luke! The above curl was from a remote JHS. The 11 second time was from a dev-box local psuedo-distributed cluster. I am wondering if there are some DataTables options we are using which is making it slower? For instance, in the test file I created, I hadn't made any of the fields searchable.

There is no need to combine the js files, as these requests should be a fraction of the that 8 seconds and mostly cached. Can you post the entire profile of the request? I recall that you said on YARN-151, 20k rows only takes 1 second to render with deferred rendering.
BTW, git apply <patch> would work.

Have you upgraded datatables as well? I think the bundled version is 1.7.5, which doesn't have the option. BTW, Can you use curl or wget to verify the server download speed? I want to rule whether if we hit the same jetty buffering issue for large output as in MAPREDUCE-4399.

Thanks for that Luke! I *had* updated it in a separate branch and forgot to include it in the patch. Here's the whole branch. I generated this patch using git diff --binary --no-prefix --full-index . I have yet to figure out how to apply this using patch.
Nathan had suggested me to use YSlow and fix the bad grade it gave. I put in a few improvements:

Here's a patch for using deferred rendering. However, it doesn't seem to produce a lot of difference with bDeferRender set to false. :( Could you please take a look?

Let me clarify. Not the data on the RM page. But, on the job Page of the AM and the HS. This data is written onto the page, using Hamster. Hence, it affects 4747. No other reason! :)

Also there does not appear to be any escaping when you are generating the JSON array. This is mostly with the job name, which I have seen some very strange names, like with a '\n' in them, but it could also lead to a XSS if the name is maliciously formatted.
