[VOTE] Apache OpenNLP 3.0.0-M3 (rc1)
Hi folks,
I have posted a 1st release candidate for the Apache OpenNLP 3.0.0-M3 release and it is ready for testing.
Bug
[OPENNLP-1819] - Align DictionaryEntryPersistor XML parsing with XmlUtil helper
[OPENNLP-1820] - Restrict ExtensionLoader to allowlisted package prefixes
[OPENNLP-1821] - Prevent OutOfMemory Due To Huge Array Allocation
Improvement
[OPENNLP-53] - Parser should have simple interface to process a tokenized input sentence
[OPENNLP-1220] - Add support for Byte Pair Encoding (BPE)
[OPENNLP-1518] - Roberta-based Models - Add support for utilization via Onnx
[OPENNLP-1816] - Make the ME object design thread-safe and faster
Dependency upgrade
[OPENNLP-1817] - Update log4j2 to 2.25.4
[OPENNLP-1818] - Update zlibsvm-core to 3.0.0
[OPENNLP-1822] - Update ONNX runtime to 1.25.0

[ ] PGP signatures are valid for the release artifacts using the KEYS file from dist.apache.org
[ ] SHA512 checksums are correct and verified.
[ ] LICENSE and NOTICE files exist and are accurate.
[ ] No unexpected binary files in the source release.
[ ] All source files have appropriate ASF headers (excluding generated files and legacy files).
[ ] Build completes successfully from source and the instruction to do so are clear.

The vote is open for at least the next 72 hours.

2.) Build successfully from apache-opennlp-3.0.0-M3-src.zip on:
Apache Maven 3.9.14 (996c630dbc656c76214ce58821dcc58be960875b)
Maven home: /Applications/apache-maven-3
Java version: 25.0.3, vendor: Eclipse Adoptium, runtime: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/temurin-25.0.3.jdk/Contents/Home
Default locale: de_DE, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "mac os x", version: "26.4.1", arch: "aarch64", family: "mac"
and artifacts were produced as expected. => PASSED
3.) Checked content of RC1’s binary distribution, that is apache-opennlp-3.0.0-M3-bin.tar.gz => PASSED
4.) Checked the shipped docs folder is in good shape and contains the expected artifacts (dev manual HTML + PDF, and Javadoc per module) => PASSED
5.) Did some individual tests w/ the release candidate, primarily in library use case, that is "opennlp-runtime" instead of "opennlp-tools". => PASSED
