[Issue 126887] New: Document in Use - File locked when opening a document

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126887

          Issue ID: 126887
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Document in Use - File locked when opening a document
           Product: General
           Version: 4.1.2
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: P5 (lowest)
         Component: ui
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: apaul3900@gmail.com

After installing 4.1.2 OPenOffice will not open a file.
Error window "Document in Use" pops up
Document file is locked for editing by unknown user.

Researched topic, some info available but no usable fixes (I am not a
programmer)
Windows explorer shows all documents listed as read only- unchecked read only
box for both single files and directories - but OpenOffice persists-

Win 8.1, recent laptop, never locked any files (don't know how) (I assume that
password protection is not locked). No documents hidden. OO only word
processing/spreadsheet software.

Still a problem- why so quick to say no issue?
Version 4.1.1 worked, 4.1.2 not functioning - Files Locked.
OO has all of its defaults, yet still Locking Files for opening and for saving.
OO worked in safe mode, but not in regular mode.
Very few other programs running to create conflict: Firefoxx, Thunderbird,
Bitdefender. Win 8.1 on recent HP Spectre laptop
How do I go back to 4.1.1?

The problem described is not typical and AOO 4.1.2 works with Windows 8.x.
We can suppose that your issue is not concerned from AOO but your system.
Try to run Windows in safe-mode to see if the problem still continue.

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.

So, you have a conflict between AOO and Windows.
Did you install with admin privileges?

Saving file also not working- can only save file to desktop - window pops up
and says I "don't have permission to to save in this location" [location is a
subdirectory in documents folder]. "Contact the administrator to obtain
permission".

directory, says I don't have permission.
HELP!

This is very strange.

If you receive a message that a document is in use when you attempt to open it,
this often indicates that the document was not closed fully a previous time and
the lock marker (a file) that Apache OpenOffice placed there has not been
removed. It should not matter whether you are in Safe Mode or not. Those
"lock" files have the same name as the document file except "~lock." is added
on the front and a "#" is added at the end. See if you have any of those, and
delete them.

In the properties for a Windows folder, you will often see a black square for
the read-only attribute. That just means "some" files are read only. For
individual files, check the properties for those files. If you can't clear a
read-only flag on a file, it may be that you are not using the account that
created the file. You may need to be administrator to change it in that case.

It can also be that Windows did not clear a lock that it set when a document
was opened for editing. These are part of how the file system works.
Sometimes it is necessary to completely power down and then start up the
Windows PC to have all of those locks cleared.

Also, you should always be logged in under the same account when creating and
using Apache OpenOffice documents.
