[math] alternative root find was Bugzilla

I just spent about 30 minutes trying to get this thing to compile. It
didn't. The code still has some really obvious compilation errors
(unmatched parantheses and some random string literals).

I've removed all of the proposed code from the repository until we get one
TGZ file that compiles successfully and has a complete set of successful
unit tests.
