Achieving sitemap functionality in 1.7.3

I was wondering how it would be possible to achieve the sitemap 
functionality of Cocoon 2 in 1.7.3 - i.e. use the appropriate 
stylesheet based on the requested URL. I really need to do this, and 
anything I seem to think of looks far too messy... I'm sure there must 
be a relatively clean and simple way of doing this in 1.7.3, while 
waiting for Cocoon 2!
