question on performance

Thanks for your note.   Posting 6 versions of the same question doesn't
really get you a 6x better answer :-)

There's no simple answer to your question.  If you can create a simple test
case that runs at one speed at Velocity 1.4 and a slower speed at Velocity
1.5, that'd be a big help.
