Loggable -> LogEnabled transition..
Just to voice an "egads what a PITA", I use the Cornerstone ConnectionHandler
code, and I had a class that extends AbstractConnectionHandlerFactory to
create my ConnectionHandlers. My ConnectionHandler used to extend
AbstractLoggable. I just noticed a NPE after doing the upgrade a few days ago
(just finally tested out that piece) and saw that it was failing on the
getLogger() because a logger was never set now that
AbstractConnectionHandlerFactory extends LogEnabled and the setupLogger()
function only checks for LogEnabled.
Thus my question/comment: Could AbstractLoggable be marked 'deprecated' and
thus situations like this would be evident from compiler warnings?

http://jakarta.apache.org/site/roles.html
Once there are 3 positive votes and the response to the above letter has
been received, someone from the project community who already has commit
access should send email to: root at apache.org that the account should be
created. The following information must be included in the email:
The name and email address of the new user. (ie: John Smith
<jo...@foo.com>)
Suggested account userid. This is optional. (ie: jmsith)
The project that the user should be given access to. (ie: Jakarta Foo)
The results of the votes. In other words, the names and email addresses of
the committers who approved the addition.
The new committer should also send an email to asf at jaguNET.com with the
following information (please cut and paste to return format):
Name: {your name}
Email: {your email address on the ASF lists}
Projects: {comma separated list of ASF projects to which you have commit
access}
Key: {a blank line followed by your key}
For example:
Name: Joe Foobar
Email: joe@byteme.com
Projects: Tomcat, httpd
Key:
adklajdAL()@ N*@U)U@()@@ @)U@
Finally, a new committer should also submit a signed copy of the Contributor
License Agreement to the ASF. See the Contributor License Agreement page for
details.

Amen to that! On a documentation note -- committers should add themselves
to the list of contributors (in jakarta-avalon/src/xdocs, I think)...
(iow, would be nice to know who you are =)

[Patch] Javadoc fixes for Avalon framework
Posted by Mark Woon <mo...@SMI.Stanford.EDU>.
Attached is a patch to clarify some documentation:
- deprecate AbstractLoggable
- get both "Developing with Avalon" document and Javadocs to state that
Parameterizable and Configurable are not compatible (they were contradicting
each other)
There are a bunch of warnings about the @pre and @post tags in the Javadocs for
org.avalon.apache.framework.configuration.*. Is there an Avalon specific
doclet that's supposed to deal with these tags? If not, should they be
removed?

I thought AbstractLoggable and Loggable were marked deprecated.
