SplitEnumerator#handleSplitRequest() is not called automatically by the new source framework which could be surprising to a source author. Right now a source author would have to call it himself when a split is finished or early when the reader gets created. 
IMHO it would be good if we could find a way for the framework to call it when a split is finished automatically
