[jira] [Created] (HDFS-2272) Allow Setting Default Replication Count for a Directory

Allow Setting Default Replication Count for a Directory
-------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: HDFS-2272
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-2272
             Project: Hadoop HDFS
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Ron Bodkin
            Priority: Minor

It would be beneficial to allow configuring a default replica count on a directory level, so any files within that directory in HDFS would have the given number of replicas.

Today to achieve this you need to continuously run recursive setrep on the directory (hadoop fs -setrep -R)
