The main advantage in splitting the patch into separate changes is that 
they could then be tested and approved separately.  For instance, I
wouldn't mind applying and testing the whitespace-handling part,
but I wouldn't be comfortable +1-ing the current patch until the HPUX
people could test the HPUX part.
