PDFBox 1.8.10 release

Hi,

there are again a number of solved issues and I'm thinking about a new
bugfix release. How about a new one next week, maybe later if someone
wants to get some addtional things done before?

WDYT?

I checked these files, I can't find any difference in ExtractText, so
I'll do the change. Thanks for your help!

9 files out of ~240k pdfs in govdocs1 had very, very minor differences. None of the differences were actual words.

Locally would be best, as it is really just 1 line, and I haven't

Had to dig into code to make sure that our extension of PDFTextStripper winds up calling the code that you are interested in. I think it does, so, yes, all we'd have to do is two builds, one with and one without the change.

Should I make the change locally or do you plan to commit?

Thank you!

I have only one thing I'd like to test, with Tim Allison, before a
release: there's a line in PDTextStripper

if ((wordSpacing == 0) || (wordSpacing == Float.NaN))

however wordSpacing == Float.NaN is always false. So I'd like to find
out if there is any difference in using what the developer probably
intended, which is

if ((wordSpacing == 0) || (|Float.isNaN(|wordSpacing)))

No need, PDFBOX-2853 was about rendering only. So I'd say the 1.8.10
release can go ahead.

Initial run on 1.8.10 is posted here: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-1588

Results: no surprises

That run was done before PDFBOX-2853 was completed.

Rerun now or wait for more changes in 1.8.10?

Next open issue is PDFBOX-2853. The actual patch works fine and improves
several images. However the same patch at another place doesn't, so I'd
like a 2nd opinion.

No problem. We're not in a hurry. This is not an update that solves

Got it. Will kick off the run with pdfbox-1.8.10-20150710.060546-84.jar. Unfortunately, I won't have time to do the eval until Tuesday morning EDT. :(

There isn't really an rc1. Andreas does put out a proposed release and
has a vote for 72 hours, and then this software is the release, but this
was never vetoed. What I mean is that the current version is the release
candidate.

I'll kick off 1.8.9 now so that we have it as comparison when 1.8.10-rc1 is ready. Please ping me on https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-1588 if you don't hear back from me on this list when rc1 is ready.

So next thing would be a regression test with Tim Allison, i.e. 1.8.9 vs
1.8.10.
