Checking out to NFS directories

Hello,

I try to checkout a project to a NFS directory, but get:

svn co svn://srverc/PyANSYS/trunk/
svn: Can't set file 'trunk/.svn/entries' read-only: Stale NFS file handle

The client SVN version is

>svn --version
svn, version 1.0.6 (r10360)
   compiled Sep 13 2004, 09:42:00

On the server

>ssh srverc svn --version
svn, version 1.1.1 (dev build)
   compiled Oct 21 2004, 13:23:14

is installed. Is it a problem of out NFS installation or a Subversion
problem.

Thanks
Berthold

At work, all our home directories are automounted from one of our
Netapps. Nearly everyone's working copies are in these NFS home
directories. We have never had this problem, and we've been
using svn here since about 0.36. We have clients running on
FreeBSD and Red Hat 8, 9, and Enterprise 3. Some of the RH
systems run Linux 2.6, most run 2.4.

Sorry i can't tell you what the problem is, but at least i can
tell you what it isn't :).

I'm quite confident that this is not the cause. Whith the actual
directory beeing a NFS mounted directory and /tmp beeing a local
directory I get:

3>touch hallo /tmp/hallo
3>ls -l --full-time hallo /tmp/hallo
-rw-r--r-- 1 hoel gl 0 2004-11-18 12:42:51.000000000 +0100 /tmp/hallo
-rw-r--r-- 1 hoel gl 0 2004-11-18 12:42:51.000000000 +0100 hallo

So it seems our computer times are also synced by xntp.

Kind Regards
Berthold

that kind'a rings a bell: years ago I had BIG file system trouble when the
Solaris boxes I worked on used different times (the clocks were off by up
to 5 minutes), since that time I syncronize all boxes using xntp.

No, the repository lies on a local file system on "srverc".

Currently I only have these problems when using SVN.

So I'm assuming the svn server is itself writing to NFS for the
repository? Login to the server and remount the filesystem in question.

Stale NFS handles are generally caused when the NFS server itself goes
does or 'hiccups', and clients don't realize the NFS server has
disconnected.
