servlet examples question

Hi. I am running Tomcat 4.1.24 with J2SDK 1.4 on a Windows 2000 Pro machine...
 
The servlet examples that come with Tomcat run OK here...
 
http://localhost:8080/examples/servlets/
 
but not here (in the Application Developer's Guide example "Hello, World"
application)...
 
http://localhost:8080/tomcat-docs/appdev/sample/
http://localhost:8080/tomcat-docs/appdev/sample/web/hello
 
Can anyone tell me why?
