Can you copy the full error message?

Please also consider using webAdmin mailQueue management http://james.apache.org/server/manage-webadmin.html#Administrating_mail_queues for Guice packaged version (not available for Spring wiring) - 

JMX management for the mailqueue is untested and unmaintained. Contributions and documentation on this topic is much welcomed.
