If RC1 needs to be done again anyway, this change wouldn't be too bad. So long

richard's objection is perfectly valid imho, but it's a smaller pita to do it
now than to haul the misleading .xconf name along all through 1.4.x...

I guess we have to re-do RC1 anyway, so we should fix this for 1.4.
