[VOTE] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC8

Please vote to approve Apache Flex SDK Installer version 3.1 to be
released.

Issues addressed in this release:
- Installer will report more information when installs fail.
- Bugs fixed in ant_on_air required by latest nightly builds of FalconJX
and FlexJS
- Caching logic moved to the install scripts.

Changes in this RC:
- Added uncaught error handler
- Bring log window to front if behind main window
- Add check for available network interface
- Add more info to release notes

The source distributions for Windows and Mac are available here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/installer/3.1/rc8/

The binary distributions as a convenience for the respective platforms,
available here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/installer/3.1/rc8/binaries

As agreed, there are no Linux binaries for this version.

Before voting please review the sections:
What are the ASF requirements on approving a release? at
http://www.apache.org/dev/ and approving a release at
http://www.apache.org/dev/release.html#approving-a-release

For your convenience, I have added an Ant script to the RC folder. This ant
script automates the checks a voter should perform on the RC.
It will:
  - download the default source package for your OS (use -Dpackage.suffix
to override)
  - run md5 and gpg checks (this assumes you have gpg installed in your
path)
  - uncompress the source package
  - install and run rat
  - display the rat report and ask you to verify
  - display the rat report without the AL files and ask you to verify the
non-AL files
  - display the README and ask you to verify
  - display the RELEASE_NOTES and ask you to verify
  - display the NOTICE and ask you to verify

  - display the LICENSE and ask you to verify
  - run the build and any tests run by the build.

You should be able to go away for a while during the build. When it is
finished, it will display information to be copied into the vote thread.
You are not required to use this script, and more testing of the packages
and build results are always encouraged.

To use this script (assuming you have Ant installed), it should be as
simple as:
- Create an empty folder
- Download ApproveInstaller.xml into that folder from:

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/installer/3.1/rc8/ApproveInstal
ler.xml
- Run: ant -e -f ApproveInstaller.xml -Drelease.version=3.1 -Drc=8

Vote
[ ] +1 Approve the release
[ ] -1 Veto the release (please provide specific comments)

This vote will be open for at least 72 hours.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

Yes caching was turned on, AIR or the SDK is cached with 4.13.0 (can't recall which one) which saves me 20 minutes installing.

HI,

Changing my vote to +1 binding. MD5 change fixed SDK 4.13, issue with 4.12 looks to be a Flash Builder issue and was fixed by restarting FB (SDK cached?).

Note that is there is issue with RSLs and player global swf caching but these are minor and most people shouldn't run into them (fingers crossed).

Thanks,
Justin

Hi,

Just trying again may take a little time - AIR is taking 20+ minutes to download at the moment.

Yep correct.

None.

Still can't repro the 4.13.0 problem (or the 4.12.1 problem). So you
built from these sources, uninstalled whatever Installer you had and ran
the DMG file in the installer/release folder? Are you passing any
command-line arguments?

Hi,

100% confirm it was the file put in the RC8 release area:

It was from the built source, 99% sure it was RC8 but I'lll double check the code vs the tag,

I'll check that as well.

Thanks,
Justin

I can't reproduce the problems. Is this from source package you built or
the binaries in the RC folder?

For the 4.13.0 error, it sort of sounds like you might be running RC7 or
earlier.

For the 4.12.1 problem, it is strange that a desktop app wants
playerglobal.swc, usually it wants airglobal.swc. Can you try a new
desktop project or look at the config and project files or compile from
the command line and see if it is using playerglobal or airglobal?

Thanks,
-Alex

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC8

Hi,

-1 binding as I'm unable to create working 4.12.1 SDK, 4.13.0 RC SDK or Nightly SDK.

- Signatures and md5 hash correct
- LICENSE and NOTICE correct
- All source has correct headers
- No binary files in source package
- Can compile source package

Tried to install 4.12.1 SDK - installed completed with no errors in installer log.

But for a test desktop app I get this error:
unable to open '/Users/justinmclean/Documents/ApacheFlex4.12Test/frameworks/{playerglobalHome}/11.1/playerglobal.swc

And for both AIR and mobile apps I get this error;
/Users/justinmclean/Documents/ApacheFlex4.12Test/frameworks/{airHome}/frameworks/libs/air/airglobal.swc

Installed 4.13.0 RC3 with FP/AIR 14 beta and it failed with these lines in the log:
Installing Adobe Flash Player playerglobal.swc from: http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer//flashplayer14_playerglobal.swc
Validating download: /Users/justinmclean/Documents/ApacheFlex4.13Test/frameworks/libs/player/14.0/playerglobal.swc
Flash SDK download failed

Tried to install Flex SDK Nightly and no errors in log but again got the same issue as 4.12.1 when trying to use the SDK.

+1

- sigs good
- builds correctly
- correctly installs SDK 4.12.1
- fails to install FlexJS 0.0.2 RC4, even after 3 tries, but the installer
does it's job, logging and reporting the failure ("AIR download"; MD5
failure, issue with config-4.0, looks like: log here [1])
