Update on Testing for Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 (RCs) as of 09/24 - have testing gap on Linux

Hi all,

This is the update for showstopper defect verification/impacted area
testing, general testing and PVT:

*1.* Bug(showstopper)verification and impacted area testing - *Almost
done*for function bugs, all verified fixed and passed impacted area
testing
related to the bugs(with attached samples and limited variation), except:

122885 - Cannot reproduce it in problematic build (4.0.0), thus does not
know if it is fixed in 4.0.1, add comment in Bugzilla

*2.* General testing for Calc, Writer, Impress on Windows, Linux and Mac - *In
progress*, please see details as below:

Windows: *Complete*

Writer - Prachi test on RC2 and couldn't find any bugs on Windows 7
Calc - Akriti test on RC2 and find 10 issues(6 confirmed, no critical
problems for showstopper) on windows 8
Impress - Dick test on RC1 and all seems well and no critical bugs were
found on Windows 7

Linux: *In progress with gap*

Writer - Kay test on RC3 and no issues are found on OpenSuse 12.3
Calc - Haven't received test result so far (any one can share your test
result if you have done or help execute attached general testing list on
Calc)
Impress - Started on RC3 by Edwin

Mac: *In progress and safe*
Impress - passed on RC2 by Liu Ping
Calc -passed on RC3 by Yu Zhen
Writer - started on RC3 by Liu Ping, will complete it tomorrow 09/25

*3. *Build verification test on RC3 - *In progress and safe*

Build installation on Redhat 32bit /Ubuntu 32bit /Ubuntu 64bit / Mac /
Windows 7 / Windows 8 - passed by Liu Ping and Yu Zhen; on Redhat 64bit -
not started, Yu Zhen will complete it tomorrow 09/25
Open three apps(Calc, Writer, Impress) successfully

*4. *GUI PVT on RC1 compared with 4.0.0 Gold - *Complete *by Liu Ping, no
obvious reproducible performance downgrade on RC3

As we are closed to the deadline(*2013-09-25*) of vote for AOO 4.0.1(RC3),
your volunteering to fill the gap on Linux testing will be appreciated!

Regards
Yu Zhen

This bug report describes that there should be an error message, when
"Show error message when invalid values are entered" in the Error Alert
tab is unchecked.

You get an error message, when this option is checked.
That's what I expect -> no bug!

Validity: I was able to find a bug reporting this error from version
OOo300_m3_EN, I wan't able to verify it on earlier versions.

Name Range: Seems an old bug, and also multiple instance from it.
However this testcase is somewhat misplaced since the issue has to do
with relative references more than Name ranges itself.

Posted by Liu Ping <do...@gmail.com>.
 Hi Edwin,

I check your Debian_130925.ods and bug opened by you in bugzilla , found
there are two fail testcase but no bug to match . Can you help to confirm
again

Fail inactive URL is pasted instead of text, can not undo cut of hyperlink
Fail Ctrl left click for multiple select not working

I update Debian_130925.ods , the text marked by red color means that there
are one bug to match failed testcase; the text marked by blue color means
no bug to match failed testcase

Hi Edwin,

we have several different "sites", and they all are important.

AOO needs tests with the latest Trunk-dev builds to recognize
regressions as soon as they appear, and so your Linux64 tests would show
important problems if they can be confirmed with a second build and / or
other users.

A completely different thing are the RC tests, here it is necessary to
use exactly the RC builds to find out whether they still contain bugs
too serious to leave them in the final versions for normal users. It
seems we do not have many Linux64 testers, so it would be great if you
could repeat the tests with a Linux64 RC3 from
<https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds#DevelopmentSnapshotBuilds-AOOSnapshotfullsets>

Generally it would be great if some Linux64 users would try to reproduce
results from
<https://issues.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?list_id=92519&longdesc=1525769&longdesc_type=allwordssubstr&query_format=advanced>
with Linux64 Nightly Trunk builds AND Linux64 4.0.1 RC3 builds, so I
added some users I found in Bugzilla (who might not have subscribed this
mailing list).

Best regards

Rainer

Always had the impression testing with the latest build is best.
Thanks for correcting me.

Hi Edwin,

yes, that's wrong. If you test a nightly Trunk build (what might be
horribly broken) the test results say nothing concerning the quality of
the RC. So test results might be interesting, but not for 4.0.1 RC testing.

And if you did not test
<https://issues.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?longdesc=1525769&longdesc_type=allwordssubstr&query_format=advanced&list_id=92549>
with a 4.0.1-dev (RC3), but with 4.1.0-dev (as I see in the comments),
please correct the version selectors in those bug reports (please also
see my private mail!).

Best regards

Bugzilla updated.
Is it wrong to test on a newer build?

Thanks Edwin for your time and effort on the detailed report! For the
failed test cases, do you have chance to open bugs in Bugzilla? If not and
you have time, could you please open them? Also, the latest RC build is
RC3 AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1524958, we are expected to test on it.

1. Bug(showstopper)verification and impacted area testing - Almost done
for function bugs, all verified fixed and passed impacted area testing
related to the bugs(with attached samples and limited variation),
except:

122885 - Cannot reproduce it in problematic build (4.0.0), thus does

- In progress, please see details as below:

Windows: Complete

Writer - Prachi test on RC2 and couldn't find any bugs on Windows 7
Calc - Akriti test on RC2 and find 10 issues(6 confirmed, no critical
problems for showstopper) on windows 8
Impress - Dick test on RC1 and all seems well and no critical bugs were

Calc - Haven't received test result so far (any one can share your test
result if you have done or help execute attached general testing list
on Calc)
Impress - Started on RC3 by Edwin

Mac: In progress and safe
Impress - passed on RC2 by Liu Ping
Calc -passed on RC3 by Yu Zhen
Writer - started on RC3 by Liu Ping, will complete it tomorrow 09/25

3. Build verification test on RC3 - In progress and safe

Build installation on Redhat 32bit /Ubuntu 32bit /Ubuntu 64bit / Mac /
Windows 7 / Windows 8 - passed by Liu Ping and Yu Zhen; on Redhat 64bit
- not started, Yu Zhen will complete it tomorrow 09/25

4. GUI PVT on RC1 compared with 4.0.0 Gold - Complete by Liu Ping, no
obvious reproducible performance downgrade on RC3

As we are closed to the deadline(2013-09-25) of vote for AOO

Currently I only work with AOO on Windows (Vista and 7)

I'll post some of what I have to the mailing list and see where, or if, you
want any of it on the wiki - but it will be a few days before I can do so.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for all your work on this - by chance do you also test Base?

Hi Yu Zhen,

I just tried to install a snapshot of AOO on an ubuntu12.04 machine, using your command from your attached .ods file.

from the .ods file: Install: dpkg -i --force-overwrite openoffice.org*.deb
Trying to use this command I get some errors.
This worked for me: Install: dpkg -i --force-overwrite openoffice*.deb

btw. after installing the "openoffice4.0-debian-menus_4.0-9714_all.deb" package I can't see a AOO icon/entry in the Unity Luncher (the dock on the side).
