[VOTE] Apache OODT 0.1-incubating release (rc3)

Hi Folks,

After addressing some concerns documented on the mailing list, I have
prepared
a third release candidate for the Apache OODT 0.1-incubating release. The
source
code is at:

http://people.apache.org/~woollard/apache-oodt-0.1-incubating/rc3/

For more detailed information, see the included CHANGES.txt file for details
on
release contents and latest changes. The release was made using the OODT
release process, documented on the Wiki here:

http://s.apache.org/05

The release was made from the OODT 0.1-incubating branch (r1026904) at:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/oodt/branches/0.1-incubating

Please vote on releasing these packages as Apache OODT 0.1-incubating. The
vote is
open for the next 72 hours.

Only votes from Incubator PMC are binding, but folks are welcome to check
the
release candidate and voice their approval or disapproval. The vote passes
if at least three binding +1 votes are cast.

[ ] +1 Release the packages as Apache OODT 0.1-incubating

[ ] -1 Do not release the packages because...

Thanks!

Dave Woollard

P.S. Here is my +1.

Hey All,

Wondering if we could get some more IPMC people to look at our release so we can get the votes to push it out.

Thanks,
Paul Ramirez

+1 if mvn -P audit package adequately checks all files.

Alan,

Thanks for following up...

It looks like mvn -P audit install is failing, but mvn -P audit package succeeds. I'll look into it further before cutting the next RC.

Alan,

To follow up on what Chris sent, we incorporated RAT in a maven profile. There are a number of exclusions incorporated into the pom files for each of the subprojects, so if you run rat from the commandline, you will pick up those exclusions in the analysis.

Thanks for checking out the release!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for looking at our release. Did you run mvn -Paudit to discover those RAT failures? Can you attach a log so that we could better track them down? We've gone through a lot of trouble to make sure that RAT is integrated (e.g., see [1]) and I would like to know specifics of where we missed them.

Thanks!

Cheers,

That said, if there's any way that we can roll *one more release* (famous
last words ;) ), that would be great.

As it turns out the tika-core-0.8-SNAPSHOT jar we are depending on now for
pushpull includes an update that breaks the way I was using the
functionality of the LinkContentHandler. Before it used to return
Map<String,String> for the links and the link text, but now it returns a
List<o.a.tika.sax.Link> object.

One workaround for this is to grab the N-1 version of the snapshot jar from
$HOME/.m2/repository/org/apache/tika/tika-core/0.8-SNAPSHOT/ folder and then
use it to overwrite the latest version that mvn downloads in that same area.
Yes, this is a hack. :) Another way to address this issue is simply to tell
mvn to run in offline mode (mvn -O) and not let it download the latest tika
0.8-SNAPSHOT jar.

I'll go ahead and file an issue now and throw up a patch to fix this going
forward. Can we roll one more RC, pretty please? It'll pay off if the users
of OODT don't have to execute one of the above hacks to have their code
build. Also, since Tika 0.8 should be out the door soon, I don't expect any
more snapshots incompat API changes in that series.

Cheers,
Chris

That said, if there's any way that we can roll *one more release* (famous

Yes, this is a hack. :) Another way to address this issue is simply to tell
mvn to run in offline mode (mvn -O) and not let it download the latest tika

I'll go ahead and file an issue now and throw up a patch to fix this going
forward. Can we roll one more RC, pretty please? It'll pay off if the users
of OODT don't have to execute one of the above hacks to have their code
build. Also, since Tika 0.8 should be out the door soon, I don't expect any
more snapshots incompat API changes in that series.

Cheers,
Chris
