Although executing the writer.close(), when the exception is thrown in EmptyTupleSource totally makes sense it causes problems with recovery tests. Apparently when the pipeline consists of several activities and the exception is thrown in the second part of the pipeline, closing the writer in ETS flushes the frame, while there is no-one to accept the frame on receiving side. This leads to a deadlock in all recovery test, checking for duplicate insertions.
