[users@httpd] Fw: Multiple Virtual servers : One Log File?
If I set up a custom log file for 3 deifferent virtual
servers, can they all log to the same file correctly?
Here's the section of the httpds.conf file:
<VirtualHost 192.58.150.71>
DocumentRoot "/am/contents"
ServerName testcontent.aip.org
ErrorLog logs/error_log_testcontent
CustomLog logs/am_log combined
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost 192.58.150.72>
DocumentRoot "/am/authors"
ServerName testauthors.aip.org
ErrorLog logs/error_log_testcontent
CustomLog logs/am_log combined
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost 192.58.150.73>
DocumentRoot "/am/topics"
ServerName testtopics.aip.org
ErrorLog logs/error_log_testcontent
CustomLog logs/am_log combined
</VirtualHost>
We're running Apache with this information:
Server Version: Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.4.10 OpenSSL/0.9.4 ApacheJServ/1.1 mod_perl/1.21
We cannot upgrade :( So please limit anyt responses
to this or earlier versions.
I tested it and it seems to work but I can't be sure.
Thanks for any advice,
=Scott

Absolutely! About the best I can suggest is that you look through the
release notes for each of the packages
http://httpd.apache.org/
http://www.modssl.org/
http://www.openssl.org/
I'd also recommend signing up to receieve CERT advisories. While you will
inevitably receive information about products you don't use, it's easier to
manage that subscribing to announce/security lists for every product that
you use. Information about the mailing list can be found here:
http://www.cert.org/contact_cert/certmaillist.html
Cheers,
Zac

I am running more than these 3 virtual servers... I guess I'll
have to log to seperate log files and combine later as you say.
This Apache is running under unix though, I wasn't aware there
was much in the way of security trouble with this, is there something
to worry about under Unix/Solaris?

Listing the same logfile in each vhost should probably work, however you
may find logs being garbled. If these are the only vhosts on your server,
consider putting the Log directives into your main configuration, and
leaving them out of the vhost blocks - this way, all log entries will be
written to the files listed in the main config.
If you have other vhosts on the server, the safest way would be to write to
three separate logs and then combine them later.

I hope this machine does not face the internet - you are vulnerable to many
serious security problems.
