Memory leak testing

As you may have noticed, I have been removing some memory leak
protection options that are no longer required since the associated
leaks have been fixed in the minimum Java version required by some
Tomcat releases.

If you want to experiment with this yourself, I have put together some
test code on GitHub you may find useful:
