How to get the number of updated records ?

Hi Folks,

 Does somebody knows how to get the number of records 
updated/deleted by the methods defined in the peer class?

 These methods return no value, void, but I need to know 
whether my update/delete method call has succeeded or not
and the number of records updated/deleted by the method.

 If this topic has discussed before, please let me know 
thread number of these topics.
