[Bug 108474] Column and row selections are not retained when modifying them by shift key

This issue has been confirmed and can be replicated by the following steps:

1. Click on either a column or row header (e.g. 1 or A)
2. Press and hold shift
3. Click the down arrow button

The selection is then reduced to the square/rectangle created between the
clicked header and the currently active cell.
