John Compitello updated SPARK-20109:

> Project: Spark

> Affects Versions: 2.1.0

> The current implementation of toBlockMatrix on IndexedRowMatrix is insufficient. It is implemented by first converting the IndexedRowMatrix to a CoordinateMatrix, then converting that CoordinateMatrix to a BlockMatrix. Not only is this slower than it needs to be, it also means that the created BlockMatrix ends up being backed by instances of SparseMatrix, which a user may not want.
