Some questions on Apache RAT

Hello,

I am working on project DRAT [1], started by my advisor Dr. Chris Mattmann,
which uses Apache RAT and runs distributedly. Can you help me with below
questions on Apache RAT:

(a) Does RAT check for License file in the top-level directory or it
assumes that each file should have a license header?

(b) Is there any documentation or a paper which explains RAT workflow and
how it audit for licenses?

(c) I am looking forward to contributing in Apache RAT. How can I do that?
I am not sure if anyone is working on some new features, etc.

Thanks & Regards,

Thanks, Phil. I will wait outside the door for RAT v0.12. :-)

Can you point me to some documentation which explains how can I configure
my own licenses?

Hi Karanjeet,

thanks for your interest in RAT :-)

The basic assumption is that each file needs to have a valid license
header. All exceptions can be configured.

Furthermore a basic "binary" detection is in place because RAT assumes
only textfiles to contain license headers.

Apart from that you may configure your own licenses and check for them.

At the moment we are struggling to get 0.12 out of the door - afterwards
we are happy to receive contributions of any kind as the tickets in Jira
are rather old:

Cheers,
Phil
