changelists?

Just out of curiosity: are the "change-lists" mentioned in
    <http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=22670&listName=dev>
the same thing as the "perforce" concept "changelists"?
    <http://www.perforce.com/perforce/doc.011/manuals/p4guide/07_changelists.html#1040380>
?

Thanx!

If you really want to get a grip on WebDAV/DeltaV, I recommend the
"introduction" article on the DeltaV site:

Not really.

I'm digging around to see if a proprietary SOAP-based protocol/API can
be replaced by WebDAV/DeltaV. One of the things the proprietary
protocol transfers, is Perforce-like changelists.

Are "Change Sets" what you're thinking of?

I see...! :-)

It looks like you're primarily interested in the Subversion's
implementation of WebDAV/DeltaV. If so, look at the "WebDAV Usage"
paper underneath the web site's "Docs" tab.

Note -- Greg Stein, the author of Apache's mod_dav, is the person
responsible for making DeltaV our network protocol. He basically
wrote all the code and has made all the decisions about exactly how
Subversion implements DeltaV. (Almost) nobody else on this list is
really capable of discussing this topic. :-)

OK.  Thanx.

Yup, the problem is that I don't know what word or terms to search
for.

Is DeltaV ACTIVITY, something to look for?
	<http://www.webdav.org/deltav/protocol/draft-ietf-deltav-versioning-16.htm#_Toc518969308>

I've skimmed the design document, without finding something similar.
I've also searched the design document (for "activity" and "change"),
and searched the email archive for the words "change lists", and the
one year old email was the best I found.

When I just now searched the mail archive for ACTIVITY, I found this,
which seems to be an ACTIVITY implementation in subversion...?

Philosophically, they are the same thing: they're both talking about a
set of changes made to files and tree-structure.

But Subversion isn't a changeset-engine like Bitkeeper or other SCM
tools. Subversion doesn't allow you to manipulate or store changesets
as first-class objects. Instead, modeling off of CVS, it "discovers"
the changelist by crawling your working copy at commit-time. The
changelist is then sent over the network and applied to the head tree
in the repository. (The repository is an array of trees; each tree
represents a single commit, and thus each changelist can be deduced by
comparing successive trees.)

That email you cite is over a year old. I'd suggest reading the
design document, or looking at more recent mails. :-)
