[jira] [Created] (KAFKA-814) Controller should not throw exception when a preferred replica is already the leader for a partition

Sriram Subramanian created KAFKA-814:
----------------------------------------

Summary: Controller should not throw exception when a preferred replica is already the leader for a partition
                 Key: KAFKA-814
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-814
             Project: Kafka
          Issue Type: Bug
    Affects Versions: 0.8
            Reporter: Sriram Subramanian
            Assignee: Sriram Subramanian
            Priority: Blocker
             Fix For: 0.8

When a preferred replica is already a leader for a partition, the controller throws and logs the exception. This causes lots of noise in the log and the error is really not actionable. The controller should just continue with the next partition.
