[jira] [Commented] (WHIMSY-134) Redundant messages in server error log

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WHIMSY-134?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16159877#comment-16159877 ]

Sebb commented on WHIMSY-134:
-----------------------------

I wonder if some of the spurious output is caused by:

https://github.com/apache/whimsy/blob/c978462d19f86711baf5f2df0596a6776db62696/www/secretary/workbench/parsemail.rb#L38
and/or
https://github.com/apache/whimsy/blob/c978462d19f86711baf5f2df0596a6776db62696/www/secretary/workbench/parsemail.rb#L45

Also the use of the width field is a bit strange.

> There are a lot of messages in the error log which don't seem to be errors.
> These have the form:
> App <nnn> stderr: <ip> - <user> \[Date\] "GET /path HTTP/1.1" 200 - m.nnn
> Since these http requests already appear in the access log it seems unnecessary to repeat them in the error log. This makes it harder to find genuine errors.
> There are also quite a few instances of the following:
> App <nnn> stdout:<space>
> with no text. Whilst these are easy to ignore, it would be better not to generate them.
