[ANNOUNCE] Apache Ivy 2.3.0-RC1 released

The Ivy project is pleased to announce its 2.3.0-RC1 release.

Ivy is a tool for managing (recording, tracking, resolving and
reporting) project dependencies, characterized by flexibility,
configurability, and tight integration with Apache Ant.

Key features of this 2.3.0-RC1 release are
* improved Ant support with some new Ant tasks and enhancements to existing tasks
* some new resolvers
* numerous bug fixes as documented in Jira and in the release notes

In addition, experimental OSGI support has been added to the Ivy core.

As a release candidate version, we strongly encourage the use of this version for
testing and validation. From now on, features are frozen until final 2.3.0 version,
only bug fixes will be applied before 2.3.0. If no outstanding bugs are reported
with this release candidate, it will promoted to 2.3.0 about three weeks after this
release candidate.

Issues should be reported to:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IVY

Download the 2.3.0-RC1 release at:
http://ant.apache.org/ivy/download.cgi

More information can be found on the Ivy website:
http://ant.apache.org/ivy/

Maarten Coene

Is 2.3.0-RC1 published to a repository?  It doesn't appear to be on Maven Central where previous 2.x releases and release candidates were published:

http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/ivy/ivy/

Thanks,

Is 2.3.0-RC1 published to a repository? It doesn't appear to be on Maven Central where previous 2.x releases and release candidates were published:

IVY-1300

Posted by Ed Burcher <ed...@gmail.com>.
One for the Ivy guys

IVY-1300 - Nicolas had a look at my patch submission, parked it having found some broken tests. I've submitted a patch (extra tests) that in my view show that those breaking tests are actually testing for broken behaviour. There's more explanation on the JIRA

Hope you can take the time to have a look at it

Thanks
Ed

Hi Ed,

I'm sorry we've missed it.
There is not much manpower on this project so we do our best. If you feel your issue is being forgotten, don't hesitate to ping us, like you kind of did with your email.

Since it's a RC, we can get your patch integrated in the final release.

I hope you'll continue to suggest patches if you find bugs.

cheers,
Nicolas

Context: i'm just a guy who found a bug, thought he'd try and fix it , then submitted it in the right way (i thought)

It's definitely disappointing to see that the project can go through 9+ months of scoping 2.3.0, have submissions via jira, consider them in no way at all, then collectively vote for a release. It's a real shame to see such a token process.

selfishly, i'm of course referring to the correctness bug i reported to jira and the list (with a test case and a patch!) In jun 2011.

I suspect my case is not alone. It's actually quite depressing.

I might as well chime is as well. We're using 2.3.0-RC1 at Netflix now with
good results (no regressions found).

I have submitted one bug with a proposed fix: IVY-1353, and it seems to be a
trivial mistake with a simple fix.

We do still continue to see occasional exceptions with symptoms like
IVY-1333 and IVY-1326, so I suspect there are still ways for the resolve
graph to get built with missing data. Our graph that triggers this is quite
large (~300) modules, so it is hard to create a tests case for. But I could
try to add some diagnostics to dump out state when we do hit the exception
if that would help.
