log4j.configuration

Hello!

This might be slightly off-topic...

I am running Linux and am trying to set the log4j.configuration
environment variable in order to point log4cxx to my configuration file.
however, when I do this:

export log4j.configuration=/foo/bar

I get:

bash: export: `log4j.configuration=/foo/bar': not a valid identifier

It seems I can't set environment variables with a '.' in the name. Has
anyone else had problems with this or am I on completely the wrong track?

Regards,
Mattias
