I don't think that request No. 2 fails right?
We use the first request to determine whether authentication is needed.
The failure in this case is a 407 error or a 401 error. Thus, any other (4xx, 5xx) is regarded as a success. We can't stop the 404 anyway. And, that is not any sign of a failure.
