[jira] Created: (GERONIMO-3725) The progress bar shown during Geronimo start up needs to be updated

The progress bar shown during Geronimo start up needs to be updated
-------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: GERONIMO-3725
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMO-3725
             Project: Geronimo
          Issue Type: Improvement
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: startup/shutdown
    Affects Versions: 2.1
            Reporter: Jarek Gawor

The progress bar shown during Geronimo start up (when executing 'geronimo run') needs to be updated. Currently, the size of the bar depends on the number of modules installed. That is, if N number of modules are installed the bar is of size N. So if lots of modules are installed, the bar might wrap around the screen.

I think we should replace this bar with a bar based on the percentage of total Geronimo startup (what is currently displayed just as a number). The new bar would not display the detailed information as the existing bar (i.e. which modules successfully started up or failed) but would not suffer from the problem explained above.

Jarek Gawor commented on GERONIMO-3725:
---------------------------------------

To clarify, the existing bar can visually indicate (by displaying different characters) if a given module is starting, started or failed as the server starts up. But the new bar (in the patch) is just displays the percentage of the total server startup (no per-module info).

Jarek Gawor resolved GERONIMO-3725.
-----------------------------------

       Resolution: Fixed
    Fix Version/s: 2.1

Added the new progress bar to trunk (revision 614326) with some minor modifications. Also, I decided to leave the old progress bar in svn just in case.
