The behavior what you described is not typical. Writer works fine for many
users.

A very large proportion of crashes in OpenOffice are cured by deleting or
renaming the User Profile. Details about it are given in:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.

When attempting to highlight and erase information in the address fields in the
insert envelope feature, or highlight and paste new information, writer
crashes.

It is possible to position cursor and backspace over an individual line of data
to replace with new. Problem only occurs if line or multiple lines are
highlighted.
