    I'm not sure I understand this.  We are just removing the top level of exception, not getting the root cause exception, so we still may not be seeing the real problem. 
    
    Also, why sending something to the log file makes it possible to be seen, it doesn't really surface the problem.
    
    Where does the exception get cut off?  Can you give a before and after?
