Xerces in JDK 1.4+ era

Dear All,

in recent discussion we touched possibility to increase the minimal JDK
version to 1.4.

But as since 1.4 version JDK has built-in support for XML processing,
doesn't this also mean a significant part of Xerces code could be removed in
favor of native (Xerces based) JDK code?
