[jira] [Created] (UIMA-2223) Incorrect address for eclipse plugin
download
Incorrect address for eclipse plugin download
---------------------------------------------
Key: UIMA-2223
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-2223
Project: UIMA
Issue Type: Story
Components: Eclipse plugins
Environment: Eclipse, windows 7
Reporter: Anthony DeLuca
Priority: Blocker
I went to setup the eclipse plugin following the tutorial at
http://uima.apache.org/downloads/releaseDocs/2.2.2-incubating/docs/html/overview_and_setup/overview_and_setup.html#ugr.ovv.eclipse_setup
The provided link at http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/uima/eclipse-update-site for the addon/update failed.
I removed "incubator" and used http://www.apache.org/dist/uima/eclipse-update-site/ instead. This seemed to find and install the plugin correctly.

I guess the correct way would be to release it again with a version
increment, e.g. 2.2.2-2, if you
change the link on the web site it is still incorrect in the
documentation which is contained in our distribution.
Why not just tell everyone they should please update to the last release?
All our releases here are strictly backward compatible.
Anyway no objections from my side to update the link.

Anybody object to my doing that? I could correct the link, and also indicate this release is 2 levels out of date.

Richard Eckart de Castilho commented on UIMA-2223:
--------------------------------------------------
It might be a good idea to add a prominent notice to the old documentation pages that the documentation is outdated and also add such a not to the outdated update site links.

Marshall Schor commented on UIMA-2223:
--------------------------------------
I'm not sure how to "fix" this. The reference url to the documentation is for an old release and the link was valid while we were in the incubator, but now that we've graduated, we were required to remove our old distributions there. The new documentation (for releases since we've graduated) has the correct link.
Does anyone know if there's some kind of "forwarding" link that can work for eclipse download sites?
Since this is mirrored, it would be good if the forwarding mechanism also worked on the mirrors...
