[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-13931) Decommission Analytics component/handler

Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-13931:

Bumped into this issue. I see that you got absolutely no replies to your user list thread.

So I fully support the plan laid out above. Can we deprecate this in 9.2? And then identify key analytics features that we may want to add to JSON facets, and make an umbrella JIRA for those? Then users of analytics are given some incentives to contribute to the built-in JSON facets, rather than perhaps forking off the component into a github repo which would be more maintenance.

I'm not sure [~mkhl] that the "shim" direction, i.e. auto converting analytics queries to JSON facets is worth it, rather than just asking users to migrate?

> let's:
> # Deprecate the analytics component
> # Make a migration path to JSON Facets
> # Make sure that JSON Facets has all of the necessary functionality (median, unique, percentile, etc.)
> # Have analytics queries be converted to json facets, and computed that way.
> # Remove the Analytics Component backend
> # Down the road stop supporting analytics component requests all together (Make users switch to json facets themselves)
