[jira] Created: (CAMEL-3667) Camel DNS component

Camel DNS component
-------------------

                 Key: CAMEL-3667
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CAMEL-3667
             Project: Camel
          Issue Type: New Feature
    Affects Versions: 2.6.0
            Reporter: Antoine Toulme
             Fix For: 2.7.0

This patch is a new feature for Camel.
It builds on top of dnsjava enough functionality to do DNS lookups and dig-like functionality.

It has a neat side feature: you can look up word definitions from Wikipedia with it.

There are maybe more use cases that can easily be implemented, like having dynamic DNS.

Hi,

I noticed the BSD license on dnsjava. Is an Apache 2.0 license compatible with BSD licenses?

This is a very useful and most excellent capability to have... I do think could be many other utilitarian uses for this capability for Type Conversion (DNS <--> IP Addr) etc.

Nice component. Very cool!!!

Cheers,

Ashwin...

Claus, AFAIK it doesn't. The code lets you override the provider with a system property, but I don't know how this would be implemented in non-Sun JVMs.

Checked the osgi side, while the dnsjava library provides a MANIFEST it is not useful.
Classes like junit and sun.net.spi.nameservice are imported.

Have osgi tests written for deployment but a fixed dnsjava bundle is necessary.

I actually implemented a set of converters, feel free to check them out.

Edstrom, is that a blocker ? I can probably help fix the guy's manifest, but I think his build is ant based, so it will be custom made.

@Antoine - No, I wonder if it is simpler to shade the bundle though, it mixes tests and classes in the same packages so that should probably be filtered in the build as well. I looked through the SF project tracker for any comments on osgi deployment.

Hi, I took a very quick look at the github code and looks good, including the BSD license of dnsjava. I was a bit puzzled by the WikipediaEndpoint, so I'd like to take a closer look tomorrow at the actual patch this time. Many thanks for the contribution!

Hi,

I noticed the BSD license on dnsjava. Is an Apache 2.0 license compatible with BSD licenses?

This is a very useful and most excellent capability to have... I do think could be many other utilitarian uses for this capability in Type Converters etc.

Nice component. Very cool...

Cheers,

Ashwin...
