[users@httpd] Need Help Urgent..

Hello All,

I have lost around 1000 VirtualHost enteries from my httpd.conf file. I need
to restore them as fast as possible.
Can anyone please suggest me the fastest method to restore all this lost
VirtualHost enteries.

Thank you,

Tina..

Posted by Thomas Bolioli <in...@terranovum.com>.
Before you do anything, type this at the prompt:
httpd -t -D DUMP_VHOSTS > vhosts.txt
This will get you a map of vhosts to dir and ports.
This will dump what is in memory. Hopefully the server has not been
restarted and this will all still be in memory.
You could then write a perl script to parse that and get you part of the
way back to normal.

If they are in a directory like /var/www/* or /home/httpd/*

Just use a directory listing (on Linux ls -la or something with flags like
that) then script something to build the containers you want and import them
into the conf file.

Surely though some kind of tape backup (archive) must exist - Rule #1 for
admins......

Re: [users@httpd] Need Help Urgent..

Posted by Jerry Bell <je...@syslog.org>.
If the virutal hosts are configured in a consistant way (i.e.
/var/web/DOMAINNAME) you should be able to take a listing of the domains you
hosted (hopefully you'll have that somewhere, like dns) and write a script
to create the majority of the virutal host entries.

Do you suspect that the system was compromised, or was this a mistake?
