SVN's market-share

Hi everyone!

Is there a paper, case study or website showing the SVN's market-share?
Something like the numbers of users, companies, etc?

I need to create a document with this information to oppose the enemy force
(some proprietary solutions). =)

Hope your help!

This is somewhat old now, but SVN was the leader then and it has only
gotten stronger since:

Gartner recently issued a new quadrant on ALM which touched on SVN and
it was essentially the leader.

The number of users correlates highly with its maturity, its
available community support, its lack of killer bugs, its
cross-platform stability, and its ease of deployment. This is why
Subversion's evolution as "CVS done right" was so effective: CVS was
very popular among many shops, and it leveraged the popularity of CVS,
even though CVS had many flaws (which Subversion attempted to
address).

Andy, certainly this isn't a good criteria but when we talk about any
software to managers, they always ask the number of users. Unfortunately.

That's an oversimplification. I agree it's not a primary criterion, but an important one nonetheless. There's a correlation between market share and other key factors such as how well the product is supported now and in the future. I find this to be especially true of open source projects.

If the number of people using SVN is a significant portion of the
selection criteria, then the wrong people are making the decision
about what software to use.

Every svn webcast I have seen by collabnet they usually have a slide that shows market penetration and growth. You might be able to find some slide decks on their web site.
