svn versus cvs

I plan to switch to either svn or cvs. What would you recommend? What is
more convenient and faster?

If you are switching, then svn is definitely a better choice. Subversion 
was designed to replace CVS, and it overcomes many architectural 
limitations of CVS and adds a number of important functionalities.
