Yep, I saw that , thanks.

I'll see what I can find ....

I'll investigate.

In the meantime, and posting to the list rather than cluttering up Jira,
this is what I found so far. I'm not going to remove anything yet without at
least someone skimming over it to ensure I haven't made a mistake.

Remove :-

/htdocs/ft/cocoon-site.xml
/htdocs/ft/apache-projects.xml
/htdocs/ft/build/apache-projects/*
/htdocs/ft/build/cocoon-site/*
/htdocs/ft/work/svn/apache-projects/*
/htdocs/ft/work/svn/cocoon-site/*

/export/home/config/forrestbot-trunk/conf/work/cocoon-site/*
/export/home/config/forrestbot-release/*

rgardler crontab entry for apache-projects.

Not sure what else at this point, I'll re-check tomorrow, making sure I only
left cocoon 2.1 stuff in there (as there is 2.2 floating about also)

Not everything in that directory.

Yes but leave the "logs" and "conf" directories as they
are part of the forrestbot installation.

There are only those two cocoon jobs there, but we might have new
ones later.

By the way, don't rely on 'svn status' to show you the
contents of workspaces. Some of it is under version control,
e.g. the "conf/work" directories, while some of it is output
of the forrestbots or cron jobs.

> > While we're at it I don't understand why these directories are versioned,

As explained at f.a.o/zone.html we have three forrestbots:

1) The trunk, which we are using to build Forrest's and Cocoon's stuff.

2) Trunk stable. We have used this in the past, but not lately.

3) The release branch. Some projects want to only use a
release of Forrest. At one stage (and maybe later) we would
offer services to build other projects docs. Cocoon was using
it but not now.

I would not want to remove any of the forrestbot installations
until we are clear what we are doing. It took a lot of effort
to establish.

> > it hasn't been svn up done on it since 2005,

Because the Cocoon cron jobs were switched off.

> > and there are/were processes

I don't understand what you mean.

> > And to confirm you want to keep the actual forrestbot-release directory

Yes, that is this forrestbot's workspace.

We should talk about the future of these forrestbot
installations in another thread, e.g. i would consider
asking other ASF projects that use Forrest to consider
collaborating. However, i for one, would only want to do it
if people from those projects participated here.

IIRC that is a very old forrestbot output workspace and
can probably be completely removed.

> and /htdocs/fr/*

That is the output directory which corresponds to
"forrest-bot-release". It needs to be documented at f.a.o/zone.html

Leave the directory structure so that "forrestbot-release"
can continue to operate. Just remove the cocoon-specific
outputs.

As explained at f.a.o/zone.html (but might need to be more explicit)
there are logfiles for each forrestbot, e.g. the following files
are old:
config/forrestbot-trunk/logs/cronout-trunk-cocoon-site.txt
config/forrestbot-release/logs/cronout-*.txt

bad habit replying to oneself, anyway I found some more :-

/htdocs/c2/*

which contains :-

512 Dec 15 2005 build
998 May 17 2005 cocoon-2-2.xml
1045 May 17 2005 cocoon-block-portal.xml
1026 May 17 2005 cocoon-doco-global.xml
982 May 16 2005 cocoon-site.xml
305 Jun 28 2005 index.html
512 May 16 2005 publish
512 Dec 15 2005 work

and /htdocs/fr/*

which contains :-

512 Dec 15 2005 build
2023 May 31 2006 cocoon-2-2.xml
1972 May 31 2006 cocoon-block-portal.xml
1963 May 31 2006 cocoon-doco-global.xml
512 Dec 15 2005 publish
512 Dec 15 2005 work

If you want me to list what is in the other dirs above to save folks
having to look then fine I can do that.

Ah ok that's good, just going by your my-crontab.txt as I don't have direct

Ahhh... yes, sorry getting myself mixed up on what we were talking
about. You are right apache-projects can go.

I'm confused about the line above "Ross crontab is still active in
trying to build it however". Are you saying I have a crontab running
this job? I just checked on the server and "crontab -e" shows my srontab
to be empty.

No we don't, Davids crontab runs that (and my results are trying to be
careful in making sure cocoon 2.1 docs are left alone) , your
'apache-projects.xml' is nothing to do with cocoon-docs, and doesn't look
like it does anything any more.

Actually I spoke to soon. It seems only the 2.2 Cocoon docs are built
with Maven. The 2.1 docs are still Forrest. We need to leave that running.

Well, I thought while I was in there looking around ... anyway Ross has said
we can remove this stuff - unused for years, Ross crontab is still active in
trying to build it however.

Ok lets start off with that

> > /export/home/config/forrestbot-release/*

, more specific, everything in that directory and below then, it only
contains obsolete cocoon stuff. Such as :-

-bash-3.00$ svn st
? logs/cronout-release-cocoon-2-2.txt
? logs/cronout-release-cocoon-doco-global.txt
? logs/cronout-release-cocoon-site.txt
? logs/cronout-release-cocoon-block-portal.txt
? conf/work/cocoon-doco-global
? conf/work/cocoon-site

All that can go can it ?

While we're at it I don't understand why these directories are versioned, it
hasn't been svn up done on it since 2005, and there are/were processes
writing directly to these versioned directories, a bit of a mess.

And to confirm you want to keep the actual forrestbot-release directory
itself ?

Ok, so everyone is happy all above can go too ?

I'll keep looking , but outside of those dirs above, I cant find any other
relevant logs that need to go.

No problem with apache-projects going.

BTW, i have not yet reviewed your list, just a glance.

Note that the configuration files are in SVN so need to be
removed from there first, whereas the build/* and work/svn/* etc.
are results of running the forrestbots, and so are not in SVN.

I suggest that you focus only on this "cocoon" issue and leave
the rest for something else. Ask Ross about that "apache-projects" stuff.

In particular, i don't understand why you are removing the
"forrestbot-release" installation from $CONFIG. It probably
needs to be updated, but not removed.

Various log files too.
