HSSF and data validation

Hello, I am trying to use the POI to write to an excel spreadsheet. 
Specifically, I am trying to create drop-down lists for one specific column.
I noticed that there has been code written to handle this:

I downloaded the new java files but I dont know how to update
the code that he patched
(HSSFSheet.java and those files that already exist).
Any thoughts? Thanks.
