Not sure if it's intermittent. I'll test.
Possible cause:
The matrix is java: [17, 21] on macos-latest. The setup-java action sets the right JAVA_HOME, but the kie-scanner test internally compiles a kjar using the ECJ compiler or an in-process Maven invocation. If that inner compilation picks up a different JDK (e.g. the runner's default Java 21 via PATH rather than the JAVA_HOME set by setup-java), the resulting class files would be version 65 (Java 21) while the test JVM is 17.
The M2_HOME is not set warnings confirm that Maven's environment isn't fully configured for the embedded Maven used by kie-scanner. The macOS runner likely has Java 21 pre-installed as the system default, and the embedded Maven fork inherits that instead of the setup-java JDK 17.
