Had the same experience that error reporting on AM crash (i.e. through classpath issues) is not detailed.

If an exception is raised in the AM startup, Tez raises the SessionNotRunning exception. This makes some sense since there is no system for the Tez client to fetch the actual exception from. It would be nice to have them write out the failure to a file in the session's staging directory in this case though, so the actual cause could be raised etc...
