Milestone 3

Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.

Subversion is now self-hosting. See http://subversion.tigris.org/ for
instructions on obtaining the bootstrap distribution and checking out
your working copy. And the bug database is just brimming with new
goodies, might want to take a look at that too.

You probably don't need me to tell you this, but just in case: please
be aware that running Subversion is not -- in the short term -- going
to be as easy as running CVS. In fact, it is going to be downright
painful. :-) When you encounter a problem, check the issues list and
the rest of the Web site for explanations and workarounds; if you
don't see anything, then mail this list right away, and/or file an
issue. You'll especially want to read the Inconveniences Page:

   http://subversion.tigris.org/inconveniences.html

All that scary-sounding stuff notwithstanding, I've committed several
changes from my working copy so far, updated, and had no problems. So
you can at least get stuff done with it.

Many, many people worked hard to make this milestone happen, but IMHO
Greg Stein, Mike Pilato, and Ben Collins-Sussman truly went above and
beyond the call of duty, especially in the last couple of weeks, and
I'd like to thank them here. You can't pay for colleagues like this,
you just have to get lucky.

I'll be out of the Subversion loop for a couple of weeks, on vacation
in Siberia, back September 16th. Hope I don't recognize the bug
database when I get back. :-)

That's not a hyperbole, folks. Karl is going on a choir tour!

Certainly not... it will be much longer. :-)

Karl and team,

You all have every right to be extremely proud of your accomplishments.
Congratulations on achieving such a significant milestone.
